Councilman Marc Tartaro Running for Mayor

Marc Tartaro announced his candidacy for mayor of Hyattsville and shared his vision for collaborative governance

Councilman Marc Tartaro (Ward 1) announced that he will run for Mayor of Hyattsville at the City Council’s Feb. 22 meeting.

“The coming budget process is a great opportunity for a new team of city administrator, treasurer and key staff to demonstrate a collaborative approach with the City Council and Mayor,” he said.

It is Tartaro's hope that under his leadership Council can move away from solutions where there are winners and losers to one with win-win solutions, where all participants feel positive about the outcome.

Noting the new five-year plan for the budget process, Tartaro said the city needed to be able to provide for all its residents by providing support to local schools and making sure that no children suffer in this economic downturn.

He also shared his vision to attract young families to the community, work with the police and City Council to ensure safety for residents, as well as “embrace the idea that we can all choose to retire in Hyattsville instead of leaving, aging with dignity in a community that supports their seniors.”
