County Police Officer Pleads Guilty in Johnson Corruption Probe

Former Prince George’s County Police Officer Sinisa Simic faces 10 years in prison after pleading guilty in federal court Tuesday to cocaine trafficking, extortion and other offenses, according to The Washington Post.

Simic, 25, and Mirza Kunjundzic, 30, were indicted in March on new charges of conspiring to commit extortion. They had been indicted in October on drug and gun charges.

Between September and December 2009, Simic and Kunjundzic allegedly conspired to pay police officers to help transport untaxed cigarettes in Maryland and Virginia. The two also participated in the distribution of cocaine, an indictment said.

In addition to the cocaine trafficking and extortion charges, Simic, 27, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Greenbelt to two firearms offenses.

U.S. District Judge Peter J. Messitte scheduled Simic’s sentencing for Sept. 23.

Simic is the tenth person to admit their guilt in this corruption probe, which included former County Executive Jack B. Johnson and his wife Leslie, who is charged with evidence and witness tampering.
