Crittenden Street Work Kicks into High Gear

Work expected to take three to four weeks to complete.

After years on the drawing board, residents, pedestrians and motorists who live and travel along Crittenden Street in Hyattsville will soon have a new, hopefully smoother and safer, streetscape.

Starting on Wednesday, July 24, work to rehabilitate Crittenden Street gets underway in earnest, with crews set to tear up the streets, replacing sidewalks, berms and curbs between Route 1 and Magruder Park, as well as repaving and addressing persistent drainage issues which residents have long complained about. In the end, residents will have smoother streets and wider sidewalks to travel through south-eastern Hyattsville's main residential corridor.

According to Abby Sandel, director of community services and spokesperson for the city of Hyattsville, the project is expected to take between three and four weeks to complete, so long as the weather cooperates.

"It's a huge upgrade for the community," said Sandel. "It's a long promised project, so it's good to finally have a shovel in the ground."

Crittenden Street will remain open throughout the work. City officials ask motorists to use caution when traveling through the neighborhood as the work progresses.
