Marital Status: Married - No children

Hometown: New Orleans, Louisiana

Qualifications:

“I have a strong background in accounting, having managed multi-million dollar budgets. I have been instrumental in identifying and curbing wasteful spending and policies to improve the health of companies and organizations.”

“I served as a deputy sheriff in New Orleans. I am a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and United States Coast Guard. My military service taught me the ability to successfully interact with different types of people and personalities, to take charge of situations and move everyone toward the completion of the goal or objective at hand.

“I have been a member of Toastmasters since 2009. I served as club treasurer and am now serving as both the club president and vice president for membership. Toastmasters has given me the confidence to speak publicly, run meetings staying on topic and on time and most importantly, how to actively listen to those around me.”

The three most important city issues and how to address them:

1) Streets and infrastructure:

“Some of our streets are in really bad condition and need more than just a cursory pothole filling. We need to find a way to speed up the process of repaving our roads. It is unacceptable to have to wait 35 years for a road project to be started or finished. The poor condition of our streets also depresses home values and public perception of the city. We also need to identify effective ways to decrease the amount of cut-through traffic through our neighborhood streets.”

2) Police patrols and public safety:

“I believe that we need to increase the number of patrol officers on the force so that we can more adequately address public safety problems and concerns throughout the city We need to increase funding for the department for training, education and officer retention as well.”

 3) Media:

“We need to make a concerted effort to reach out to the media to educate them and have them make corrections when reporting that crimes occurring in the neighboring communities are not reported as occurring in Hyattsville. By mistakenly reporting Hyattsville as the location of these crimes, it tarnishes our city’s image and drives away potential residents and businesses, thereby costing us badly needed revenue and talent.”
