Fall Citywide Yard Sale Expands to Three Days

Register before Oct. 2 to have your yard sale listed on official bargain hunting map.

A three day bargain bonanza is slated for early next month throughout Hyattsville, as city officials and local residents alike prepare for the Fall 2012 Community Yardsale.

For the first time, city officials are holding the yardsale over three days, from Friday, Oct. 5 through Saturday, Oct. 7.

According to Abby Sandel, communications manager for the city of Hyattsville, the idea to hold the event over multiple days came after some residents noted that, for religious reasons, they could not host a yard sale on Saturdays. Moving the yardsale to Sundays also posed similar complications.

"So we decided to try a three day yard sale," said Sandel in an interview. "People can participate as much or as little as they like."

City officials are encouraging people to register for the yardsale, however registration is not required. Anyone can set up shop on their front lawn, no fees and no permits required. But those who do register will have their home listed on an official map of city yard sale locations.
