HVFD Raises $55K for Cancer Research

A team representing the Hyattsville Volunteer Fire Department and other area fire departments raised more than $55,000 earlier this month as part of the St. Baldrick's Foundation charity drive. 

At simultaneous events on Saturday, March 9 at Looney's Pubs in College Park and Bel Air, participants shaved their heads to raise funds for the charity which raises money for cancer research.

In all, more than 30 present and past members of the Hyattsville Volunteer Fire Department, along with members of the College Park, Bladensburg, Kentland and Chillum-Adelphi volunteer fire stations. 

  the HVFD and its members have shown -- along with all of our friends from the departments around us , our families and friends – that we can achieve some great things together raising money for this important cause,” said HVFD volunteer Josh Wortman, who helped coordinate the College Park event. “We could not have done it though without the support of Looney’s at both locations and everyone who showed up to help us top our goals.” 

Up the road at the Bel Air Looney's, a team representing the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company, which has close ties to the Hyattsville Volunteer Fire Department after producing several live-ins for the department over the years, raised more than $40,000 for St. Baldrick's.
