Hyattsville city officials say that municipal public works crews are in standby mode as Hurricane Sandy churns up the Eastern Seaboard.
Hyattsville residents are also being asked to bring in their trash cans overnight, when the storms winds are expected to kick into high gear. As of right now, trash collection is still scheduled for Monday.
"While we always make every effort to collect trash regardless of weather conditions, the anticipated winds will blow trash cans into the street, creating hazards for emergency vehicles," reads a message sent to city residents over the Nixle alert system.
Also, city residents can call 301-985-5060 to report downed wires.
