Hyattsville Council Approves Toy Drive Donation, Initial Window Replacement Plans

Also, Hyattsville's code enforcement department likely will have a new program to use when filing documents and handling claims.

The accomplished several things at their Monday night meeting. Here are the highlights of some of them:

  • This year the city will donate $500 instead of $200 to the , a Christmas outreach to disenfranchised children. Councilwoman (Ward 1) introduced the change and the council also approved a one-to-one matching grant based on funds raised at an upcoming football game between the and the . The motion was approved.
  • Acting City Administrator Douglas Holland is authorized to execute a contract with HESS Engineering + Construction to prepare bid documents for window replacement at 3505 Hamilton Street—the. The city will pay no more than $20,000 for this work, which only includes the documents to be sent out for bids, not the actual bid or work done. Some council members said they would like to see bids for this type of work sent out, rather than just authorizing a company to do it. “If we want to do [requests for proposal] for everything we’re going to have to [augment] the staff,” said, adding that the city is concerned with value and doing projects locally.
  • Hyattsville’s likely will have a new program to use when filing documents and handling claims. The new software from Comcate will cost $19,479 to purchase and an annual licensing fee of $8,602. This program will integrate documents from its ; allow staff to manage cases from the field; and offer alerts for staff and supervisors, according to documents provided to the council.
  • Police Chief Douglas at least until Feb. 13, the council decided Monday. Holland last week provided the council with a in both positions. Holland will receive a pay increase for this extra work, but Tartaro said the amount has not yet been determined.
