Hyattsville Council Returns From Recess

City Council to tackle measures for Northwestern High School police officer, traffic enforcement project.

The Hyattsville City Council returns from its summer recess tonight. Here's the agenda packet for the meeting, posted in the PDF attached to this article. 

The city council will be considering: 

  • Renewing an agreement with the Prince George's County Police Department and Board of Education to pay for a school resource officer for Northwestern High School. Under the agreement, the county police department would pay the Hyattsville City Police Department $80,000 for Cpl. Michael Rudinski to serve as the school resource officer for the current school year. 
  • An deal for the State Highway Administration to reimburse the city for up to $6,000 in overtime costs for the city police department to work vehicular and pedestrian traffic enforcement details. 

There's also a few administrative and housekeeping measures on the agenda, including payment for $14,500 in preventative maintenance work for the Department of Public Works and Community Services vehicles through the first quarter of the current fiscal year.

There's also a host of discussion items on the agenda, with the city council taking on requests to use Magruder Park for the upcoming 2012 HyattsvilleCX cyclocross race in October and the 2012 Sonny Frazier Toy Drive Heroes Bowl in November.

The city council meeting begins today at 8 p.m. in the Hyattsville Municipal Building on Gallatin Street. The meeting is broadcast on Verizon Channel 12 and Comcast 71.
