There were also four reports of thefts from cars and one report of vandalism to a car (window broken out) in this week's crime report. These types of crimes are rather common in Hyattsville, it seems. Since Feb. 26, according to data compiled by Hyattsville Patch, there have been 38 reports of property stolen from cars in Hyattsville. The vast majority of the crimes happen "sometime during the night". Additionally, there have been 15 cars vandalized in the city in that same time frame.
These types of crimes are unique in that they occur regularly in just about every quadrant of the city. However, there are clusters. Perhaps not surprisingly, the parking lots at the Mall at Prince Georges and University Town Center have been the site of a cluster of thefts from cars since late February.
There is also another cluster of thefts from cars down in the 5300 block of Queens Chapel Road, in the south western tip of the city. That block has seen five thefts from cars since late February, including four between March 14 and March 21.
