Hyattsville Man Convicted of Sexual Abuse

A local man was convicted Friday of molesting his stepdaughter over a four year period.

Hyattsville resident Armando Adolfo Zuniga Sanchez was convicted Friday of child sexual abuse, second degree rape, third and fourth degree sex offenses and second degree assault against his now-teenage stepdaughter.

The abuse began when his stepdaughter was 8-years-old and continued for a period of four years before a school counselor reported the abuse in 2009 and Sanchez was arrested, officials said.

“It is a terrible thing when a child loses their innocence after becoming the victim of a crime and it is even worse when the perpetrator is a trusted guardian,” said Maryland State's Attorney Angela Alsobrooks in a statement issued by her office.

“Mr. Sanchez will no longer be able to hurt his stepdaughter and I pray that this conviction will bring healing and closure for her,” she said.

Sanchez faces up to 45 years in prison. His sentencing is scheduled for April 27.
