Hyattsville's HR, Public Works Bosses Quit

The revolving door in Hyattsville's municipal administration spins again. According to a report in the Hyattsville Life and Times, the city's human resources director and the acting director of the Department of Public Works will be resigning their posts. 

Chris Vermillion, who became Hyattsville's first human resources director last year, will be leaving the job effective March 1. Vermillion will have stayed on the job for a little more than a year. He was first introduced as the city's HR director late last February after an extensive recruiting process. 

Vermillion's $110,000-plus-benefits employment contract required him to give 30 days notice before terminating his contract. In resigning, Vermillion chose not to exercise an automatic one-year extension built into his contract.

Also leaving a ranking post in the city administration is Julia McTague, who had been serving as the city's acting director of the Department of Public Works since shortly after resignation of her predecessor, . In her seven years with the city of Hyattsville, McTague has worked in a variety of roles within the administration, including stints working with the city clerk and and as an assistant in the Department of Public Works, before she became an acting director. 

According to the Hyattsville Life and Times, McTague will be moving on to a job with the University of Maryland Bursar's Office. Her last day will be on Feb. 15. 

The soon-to-be vacant positions can be added to a number of other administrative vacancies which the city has been slow to fill. 

The city has been without a city administrator since Gregory Rose resigned the position in Oct. 2011. However, city officials are moving into the final stages of the hiring process for the city administrator.
