Maryland Highway Administration Launches Travel Info System

Maryland commuters can now call 511 for up-to-the-minute information about their drive home.

If you've ever been stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic on any Maryland road, you may have been wondering what was going on and if it would add time to your commute.

Now, that information will be available to commuters who call 5-1-1.

The launched a new information system Thursday. Drivers can call the number before leaving home or work or wherever their path may lead to learn about road repairs, car accidents and other obstacles they might face.

“Take advantage of 511 and its benefits, but please do so safely,” said Acting SHA Administrator Darrell Mobley. “It’s a good time to remind Maryland drivers about the and texting while driving. Access 511 before heading out or after pulling over to a safe location.”

The number 511 was designated by the Federal Communications Commission and is used in other states for similar information.

Commuters can also log onto the Maryland 511 website to create a profile and set up personalized trips.
