Muralists Wanted in Prince George's

County seeks proposals for Suitland Mall mural design.

The Prince George's County Art in Public Spaces Program is looking for a local muralist to help design a creative mural for the Suitland Shopping Center.

Dubbed the "Transforming Initiative Mural Contest," organizers are asking artists living in the Maryland, Virginia and Washington, DC, area to submit designs for the mural. The winning designer will be eligible for a $1,000 grand prize and will oversee the creation of the mural.

The contest is organized in partnership with WPGC 95.5 FM.

On Oct. 1, contest officials will randomly select up to 50 qualified area artists to submit an original design via email.

The submissions will be judged by representatives from the Prince George's County Art in Public Places program as well as personnel from WPGC. A single grand prize winner will be selected to transform the mural from design to reality.

The mural contest is part of the Prince George's County Transforming Neighborhoods Initiative, which focuses on improving the quality of life in six county locales; East Riverdale and Bladensburg, Hillcrest Heights and Marlow Heights, Langley Park, Glassmanor and Oxon Hill, Kentland and Palmer Park and Suitland and Coral Hills.

Artists and designers interested in entering the mural contest can register online here.
