Local cyclists will soon have new spots throughout Hyattsville to chain their wheels, courtesy of a newly approved contract with city bike shop Arrow Bicycle.
Last night the Hyattsville City Council unanimously approved a $55,000 plan to install 180 bicycle racks across the city's planned bicycle and pedestrian improvements.
The contract calls for three types of bicycle racks, a larger rack with space for 5 bikes and two smaller racks, one designed to go in the ground, the other designed to bolt onto parking meter poles.
Arrow Bicycle, located at 5108 Baltimore Avenue, was one of several companies which bid on the project. Their initial bid came in at $11,000 less than the nearest competitor. Those cost savings will be put used to fund installation of the racks.
The project is entirely funded by a Community Legacy grant from the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development.
