Hyattsville turns 126 this year, and to mark that special occasion the city's Recreation and Arts Department will be holding an expanded anniversary parade and carnival. Last week, city officials released the schedule for the festivities.
The carnival kicks off on Thursday, April 12 from 4-9 p.m. , giving attendees an extra day to check out the rides. Special preview coupons for $5 off unlimited ride wristbands will be available.
Friday April 13, the carnival will be open from 5-10 p.m. At 8 p.m. there will be a Freaky Friday the 13th Teen Dance Party with music by DJ Kurt of Spin City Productions. There will also be door prizes and a photo booth on hand for people to get wacky in. If you want to attend the teen dance party, you'll need to bring your student ID.
Saturday April 14 is parade day! The parade kicks off at 11 a.m. from the parking lot of and snakes its way down 42nd avenue, Jefferson Street and 40th Avenue where it concludes at

If you want a preview of what to expect at the game, Conan O'Brien has this informative video for you.
The highlight of the evening (, but only somewhat) will be the fireworks display, which begins at 10 p.m. Pyromaniacs out there might be interested to check out the contract between Hyattsville and Bay Fireworks, which will be providing the explosive Saturday night displays. which will dazzle the crowds. In all, the display will feature 60 five-inch shells, 115 four-inch shells, 280 two-and-a-half inch shells and 510 "special effect barrages."
