Ward 1 Special Election Profile: Eric Wingard

Name: Eric Wingard

Occupation: Engineer – NASA Goddard Space Flight Center

Hometown: Annapolis

I have worked as a principal engineer and project manager on large projects, working across organizational boundaries with multiple government and contracting agencies to develop and complete projects with budgets in excess of 100 million dollars.

My usage of Lean Dynamics and Six Sigma principles on these projects to streamline processes and improve capabilities has saved tax payers tens of millions of dollars. This experience will play a key role in how I will assist our city and give me a strong background for the complexity and diversity of the work ahead of us.

The three fundamentals for success and stability for our city are community, education, and growth.

Our approach should be more proactive in dealing with community’s needs such as aging in place concerns for our seniors, finding better ways to engage and communicate with residents of the city, and seriously addressing our public safety issues that have an impact on us all.

Solid educational institutions and community programs are the cornerstone of all sought after neighborhoods and desirable communities, it is crucial that we support, develop, and expand our local educational organizations through community volunteering and sponsorship being advocates at the county and state levels to increase resources and improve our Hyattsville schools.

The most pressing challenges facing Hyattsville today are fostering quality growth of our businesses, improving infrastructure, and providing high-quality city services while optimizing our spending efficiency during the current economic downturn. 

We can meet these challenges by honestly and objectively assessing current business practices exploring what is working and what is not, improving on areas of issue using the proper tools and skill sets, and by being more hands-on and engaging  of the community and local businesses for future planning needs.

I hope to engage all of you in this process before us and look forward to assisting our community and serving all of my neighbors in Ward 1!
