What Should Hyattsville's Next Library Be?

Much attention will go to the exterior details of course, but what do you want to see inside the new Hyattsville library?

The long anticipated planning process to replace the aging Hyattsville branch of the Prince George's County Memorial Library System kicks into high gear next week.

So, what do we want out of a new library? While much of the initial discussion has so far revolved around the fate of the distinctive space-age flying-saucer awning–and how it might be preserved or referenced in a new building–there is a larger discussion to be had about what we want to see inside the library.

For instance, the newest library in the county, the South Bowie branch, opened in October 2012 and features drive-thru book drop-off, multiple meeting and group study rooms, a laptop training lab and an iPad dispenser that patrons can use to check out the tablets for use within the library.

Edit: This article has been corrected to properly identify South Bowie branch as the newest library in the system.
