Five Things You Need to Know Today

About Hyattsville.

Up and Adam, Hyattsville! Here are the five things you need to know today about living in our city.

1.Wanting to find out what happened at Monday night City Council meetings? No time to stop by City Hall? Check out council summaries which now will be available online the morning after most meetings. Official minutes usually follow several weeks later, pending council approval. You also can view meeting agendas and minutes online.

2. This Saturday is citywide Yard Sale Day, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There's no charge to participate, but you must register. Registered households will be listed on the official city map, distributed to bargain hunters via craigslist and at City Hall. Sign up by calling 301-985-5000 or on the Yard Sale page. Hyattsville Elementary School plans to hold a used book sale, and the Friendship Arms Community Fellowship will rent tables at their parking lot for $15. To rent a table, contact Jackie Johnson at 301-277-6658.

3. Some teachers at Nicholas Orem Middle School have begun creating websites for their classes. According to the school's site, some teacher sites involve online projects while others provide information for students and parents about what's happening in the classroom. Look for more teachers to have websites available in the 2010-2011 school year.

4. Heads up, DeMatha students and parents! School's closed on April 8 so no need to show up.
