Hyattsville School Displays Technology in Education

County schools awarded a $40,000 grant for technology to be used to create enriching technology-laced lessons.

The school gained 30 document cameras, 30 projectors with speakers and 30 technology carts through this funding.

“Using this technology, students are able to display and edit their work in real-time and acquire hands-on experience with multi-media presentations,” said Assistant Principal Aundrea McCall. 

“Also, students, especially second language learners and those with learning challenges, are able to gain confidence by using the technology to transfer the knowledge as they work alongside the general population," she said.

Representative teachers from NOMS are required to present mini-projects that will eventually form one project with the theme: “Integrating Technology in the Content Areas in Multicultural Classrooms.” 

Maria Austria (grant writer) and teachers, Jessica Kolling (seventh-grade language arts), Krishi Gupta (eighth-grade math), and Edralin Pagarigan (seventh-grade science) presented the first project Nov. 12 at the Prince George’s County Public Schools Powering Up With Technology conference.

“They showcased their student's work and plan to continue to facilitate learning using the technology,” McCall said. 

At the end of the school year teachers will showcase their final projects.
