Northwestern Forensics Heading to Nationals

Team came in second place out of more than 65 high schools in metro area forensics league to advance to national championship in May.

The Northwestern High School Forensics Team is advancing to the national championships after placing 2nd overall in the Washington Arlington Catholic Forensics League's Metrofinals Championship, held last weekend at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in Olney.

The Metrofinals Championship was a qualifying event for the Grand National Catholic Forensic League Championships, which will be held on the weekend of May 25 in Baltimore.

The metro title caps off a successful five-event season for the Wildcats. Northwestern will be represented at the National Championships by students Shane James, Christian Romero, Tahlia Bridgmahnon, Henry Kramer, Natalia Mitiuriev and Henry Kramer.

Win or lose in Baltimore, the team is already thinking about next year when team coach and Northwestern High School teacher Curt Somers will be leading a speech class next year, partly to help recruit students for the forensics team.

The news has delighted at least one official in the school system.
