Relocation Delayed for Overcrowded French Immersion School

Students in the Robert Goddard French Immersion program must endure another year in their overcrowded school before they can relocate to the old Greenbelt Middle School, The Gazette reported.

The move from the Robert Goddard Montessori School in Seabrook to the old Greenbelt Middle School was scheduled to take place this summer, according to officials. But structural issues—such as hazardous walls, beams, and chimneys— will delay the move, the newspaper reported.

The Board of Education set aside $335,000 in January to install a new gymnasium floor and a new fire-alarm system, in addition to other maintenance work, the Gazette reported, but the school system must now allot an additional $2 million to complete the repairs.

The Robert Goddard Montessori School and French Immersion program share a building that can safely hold 991 students. In February, the Gazette reported that 555 students were enrolled in the Montessori school and the French Immersion Program had 582 students enrolled as well as more prospective students on a waitlist.
