DM Hoops Alumnus Makes Team USA

After five days of dribbling, passing, and showing off his best free throws, Bowie native and DeMatha High School alumnus Jerami Grant is now a member of the 2013 USA Basketball Men's U19 World Championship Team, the Post-Standard reported.

Grant, a rising sophomore at Syracuse University, was one of 12 college basketball players chosen for the squad by the USA Basketball Men’s Developmental National Team Committee, according to the newspaper.

To be eligible for the team, players need to be 19-years-old or younger—born on or after Jan. 1, 1994—and be a U.S. citizen, according to USA Basketball.

He will finish training camp at the U.S. Olympic Training Center (USOTC) in Colorado Springs, CO, and continue practicing close to home with the U19 team at the Washington Wizards practice facility in Washington, DC, the Post-Standard reported.

They will then travel to Prague, Czech Republic, for the 2013 FIBA U19 World Championship, which will be held from June 24 to July 6, according to the newspaper.

Last summer, Grant started all five games of the FIBA Americas U18 Championship in Sao Sebastiao do Paraiso, Brazil, leading the 2012 USA U18 National Team win gold and qualify for the U19 World Championship, the newspaper reported.
