Washington Capitals Visit University Park Elementary for Hockey School Clinic

The Capitals donated a set of floor hockey equipment to UPES this week.

Over the last three years, the Washington Capitals have affected upwards of 5,000 students through their Hockey School program sponsored by Capital One Bank.

Hockey School is a one-day clinic put on by select Capitals players and coaches at elementary schools all around the DMV Area. This week, University Park Elementary School was lucky enough to experience what 30 others have since 2007.

According to an official Capitals press release, Capitals players Mike Knuble and Michal Neuvirth and assistant coach Bob Woods led the clinic at UPES with added entertainment from mascot Slapshot.

The clinic included fundamental drills, equipment-use demonstrations and scrimmages to top it all off. To ensure that UPES students continue to benefit from the program, the Capitals also donated a set of floor hockey equipment to the school.

Knuble was confident that the proceedings were a success.

"I think the kids really enjoyed the lessons, and by the end of the scrimmage they were getting pretty good out there," he is quoted as saying in the press release.

The Hockey School program has traditionally run from September to May, the length of the school year. The visit to UPES was the sixth clinic put on so far this year. The Capitals will continue the tour of area schools with two visits per month until summer hits.
