5 Rainy Day Alternatives for July 4

Fireworks not in the forecast? Check out these alternatives.

Could a drizzle put a damper on your holiday? Or are thunderstorms threatening your fireworks show? Fear not—there are plenty of alternatives for Fourth of July fun. Here are five:

Indoor Pool

Beat the heat, rain or shine, at an indoor pool. Many facilities will be open during the day July 4. Here’s a list of outdoor and indoor pools in Prince George’s County.

Museums

It’s a big week for the Smithsonian museums in Washington, DC. Stop by the mall for the Smithsonian Folklife Festival and visit the museums. Here’s a patriotic highlight: the United States Air Force Band’s Airmen of Note will perform outside the Air and Space Museum at 6 p.m.

Mini-Golf

This option is a hole in one for your family and your wallet. Stop by your local course to see when it’s open on Independence Day. The Watkins Regional Park Mini-Golf course in Upper Marlboro will be open until 4 p.m.

Bowling

A classic American past time is a perfect way to spend Fourth of July inside. Many AMF bowling alleys are open from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. for the holiday weekend. Children can bowl two free games every day as part of the Summer Unplugged program.

Six Flags July 4th Fest

Why not spend the holiday at the park? Visitors who bring a Coca-Cola soda can enter the park an hour early and ride four thrilling roller coasters, including Superman: Ride of Steel, before anyone else. There will also be live concerts throughout the day.
