SPEAK OUT: Online Stores Offer Discounts During Maryland's Tax-Free Week

Are you saving online or by shopping in stores during Maryland's tax-free week?

ends Saturday, and for some people, that means it's time to rush to the mall and save 6 percent on a new pair of jeans.

But others may not be going to stores at all. They may be saving even more -- by shopping online.

Some major online outlets are offering big discounts and free shipping, in addition to the tax break this week.

Baltimore Business Journal reported that Maryland’s first tax-free week in 2010 increased sales in some stores by as much as 25 percent, but online stores are taking up a big spot in today’s market.

Jeff Zellmer, the vice president of government affairs for the Maryland Retailers Association, told the Journal that online sales account for between 15 and 20 percent of the retail market.

Have you been using this week’s tax break to shop in stores or online? Tell us your thoughts in the comments.
