Tonight's Washington Catholic Athletic Conference lacrosse championship game between DeMatha and Gonzaga has been postponed until Wednesday on account of the weather, according to a message from school officials. The game will still take place at Ludwig Field, and the game time is still 7 p.m. For local DeMatha alumni, this could present a bit of a scheduling conflict. "It just so happens that the DeMatha Alumni Association is planning on holding its Speaker Series on Wednesday Night featuring Joe McCann '86 and Kevin Davis '87 of the Prince George's County Police Department, along with Mike McQuillan '69, a retired member of PGCPD," according to an email from DeMatha. School partners with youth lacrosse organization to hold summer lacrosse skills camp.
Prince George's Pride Youth Lacrosse and the DeMatha Catholic High School lacrosse team have partnered to create a new summer lacrosse camp at the synthetic turf Heurich Field in Hyattsville. The camp, dubbed Elevated Lacrosse Camp, runs from July 9 through July 11. Sessions are held in the evening from 5:30-8:30 p.m. The camp is open to boys 15 and under. All skill levels are welcome to attend. The camp will be led by Sean Calabrese and Dan Deckelbaum. Calabrese was a two-year starting midfielder at the University of Delaware before transfering to Stevenson University, where he was an All-American in 2011. DeMatha Catholic High School's rugby team lost a nail-biter, falling 22-20 to league rival St. John's College High School yesterday at Heurich Field in Hyattsville. With DeMatha leading 20-15 with roughly two minutes to go in the game, St. John's College High School senior fullback Dennis Connolly scored a dramatic try, grounding the ball in the far corner of the endzone to tie the game. Cadet senior Christian Quiros made a difficult conversion kick at an extreme angle to bring St. John's ahead 22-20. Yesteday in Riverdale Park, the DeMatha Catholic High School rugby team topped Metro Area Varsity Rugby Conference opponent Eleanor Roosevelt High School 36-0, scoring six tries–three in each half–and making three conversions. Eugene Beckton led the way for the Stags, scoring three tries for the hat trick. Alex Johnson scored two tries and Darian Strachan scored one. The DeMatha rugby team improves to 3-0 on the season, while Eleanor Roosevelt drops to 0-2.
