PHOTOS: Community Gathers for Hyattsvile Fire Department's 5 Mile Run and Open House
Local runners and members of the community were out early Saturday morning to support the Hyattsville Volunteer Fire Department's 5-mile run and open house.
About 200 people came to run, cheer on runners and explore the open house at the Hyattsville Volunteer Fire Department's 5-mile road race on Saturday morning. The event took place to raise funds for the department’s fire prevention programs and volunteer fire/EMS operations. "It's a great event," said Deputy Fire Chief Matt Leonard, "It brings all the members [of the fire department] and the community together. It's our biggest event of the year." The winners of the race received gift certificates from the Mall at Prince George's. Matt Deters was the first male to finish with a time of 29:21. Merli Kaplan was the first female to complete the race with a time of 37:47. Take a look at the photos to find more information about the event.
