Among the eight deaths, a 17-year-old girl slain in her bedroom and an 18-year-old found in the street.
At least eight people were slain in a spate of gun violence in Prince George's County in August, but the county's overall murder rate appears to be slowing this year. Killings, detailed on the Prince George's County Police Department's blog, total 34 for the year. That's a little more than a rate of four per month. County police reported 90 slayings in 2011, a rate of more than seven per month. Police have charged five suspects in the eight deaths in August and are still searching for others. Crime is decreasing, but police still urge people to take caution during the holiday season.

Police say crime in Prince George’s County is at its lowest in 35 years and continues to drop. So far in 2011, reports show violent crime is down 13 percent compared to this time last year. The county’s Assistant Police Chief Kevin Davis called the decrease a “significant stride” for a county that started out the year with a reported 11 homicides in 11 days. In 2005, the county investigated 164 murders and 784 automobile thefts, two of the most common types of crimes in Prince George’s, and in 2011, those numbers decreased to 90 murders and 119 auto thefts, police report. Property crime has also …

Ever been to the National Harbor, our great County park system or Bladensburg's 1812 Museum? Of course not. Where do you live anyway? Somewhere obviously where there is no crime..... And its spelled "through and through."   more ›
