SHOUT OUT: Where Will You Be Watching the Redskins vs. Cowboys Game Sunday Night?

Traditional NFL rivalry heightened by playoff implications.

Late Sunday night, either the Washington Redskins or Dallas Cowboys will be crowned champions of the NFC East and earn a home playoff game in January. In the DC Metro area, the buzz is deafening, but there is significant national interest in the game as well. An ESPN.com poll asking, "Which team are you rooting for in the Cowboys-Redskins game in Week 17 that will decide the NFC East title?" has garnered more than 214,000 votes. Seventy-three percent (representing 49 states) said they are rooting for the Redskins, while 27 percent, representing a lone (star) state are pulling for the Cowboys. Do we mold our children to like what we like?

My husband and I can agree on just about everything when it comes to raising our daughter.  Except what teams she should root for. The biggest dispute revolves around where her allegiance should fall within the NFL. I am originally from Pittsburgh, so I am a big Steelers fan. My parents have pictures of me dressed head to toe in black and gold, waving my "terrible towel" before I could say the word "touchdown." My husband, a Washington, D.C. native, is a big Redskin's fan. With the same pictures, he watched passionately with his family for many years. That passion is still alive and well today. I think the fact that I liked sports and had a passion for a team was one of the things that brought us together as a couple early on. We have …

I am from Pittsburgh as well. My husband was born in DC. My son was born here so as hard as it was to want to make him a Steelers fan, he was not born in Pittsburgh, so I had to let him choose. He is a diehard Redskins and Capitals fan as well as Nationals and Orioles. He always rooted for Pgh teams unless they were playing one of his own!! That's life!   more ›
