Police Arrest Man in Fatal Shooting of 14-year-old in Lewisdale

The suspect in police custody was formally charged a day after the double shooting.

Update, 5 p.m.: Prince George's County Police have arrested and charged the driver of the vehicle allegedly involved in the fatal shooting of a 14-year-old Lewsidale boy was killed. Jose Luis Rodriguez-Nunez, of the 5800 block of 30th Avenue in Hyattsville, was charged second degree murder and related charges. Rodriguez-Nunez, 24, was taken into custody shortly after the shooting in the 2200 block of Sheridan Street in Lewisdale around 12:15 a.m. Wednesday, but not formally charged until Dec. 6. The other victim in the shooting, an adult man, was treated and released from a local hospital. Burger Challenge Nets $850 For Special Olympics

Fundraising haul from Hyattsville eating competition announced.

In consuming nearly 270 hamburger patties two weeks ago, Hyattsville city employees and volunteers raised a whopping $850 for the Special Olympics of Prince George's County.  The fundraising haul was announced at a trophy presentation held during last night's Hyattsville City Council meeting to honor the winners of the inaugural Vertigo Burger Challenge.  The competitive eating event pitted three-man teams from Hyattsville's fire department, police department and public works department against each other in a quest to each consume a massive 10-patty hamburger.  According to Abby Sandel, Hyattsville's communication director, the idea for the event was sparked when city Code Inspector Joe Brewer became curious if anyone had ever eaten the …

Hyattsville Crime Map: Robberies, Thefts from Auto

Robberies plague pedestrians in last week of April. Mapping theft from auto in Hyattsville. It's all in this week's Hyattsville Crime Map.

The last week of April saw Hyattsville's City Police Department investigating, among other incidents, four robberies and four thefts from vehicles.  The first robbery occurred on Tuesday, April 24, at about 4:30 p.m., according to the HCPD's weekly crime report. Police said two pedestrians were robbed by an unknown suspect in the 3100 block of Nicholson Street. No further information on the incident was provided in the crime report.  Then, about an hour later, another person was robbed by an unknown suspect as the victim was exiting the Mall at Prince Georges.  Two days later, on Thursday, April 26 at 9:15 p.m., a man walking outside of his apartment building in the 2800 block of Nicholson Street was assaulted by a group of five or six …
