County planners had concerns about the height of the proposed buildings and storm water management on the site.
The Prince George's County Council on Sept. 23 approved, with conditions, the Landy development, which was previously remanded by the County Council acting as the District Council. "We think what we've done with this project is attract a lot of people who wouldn't be satisfied with what we were proposing," developer Marvin Blumberg told the Planning Board. The project, which originally included seven phases of 16-story high-rise apartment buildings, has been before the Prince George's District Council for three years and was recently remanded back to the county planning board. "It became clear to us after three years that was too much height and too much density all at once," said attorney Richard Reed, who represents the project. One of …

Some council members are not in favor of plans for storm water on the site and the impact the development could have on local infrastructure.
At its meeting Monday, the Hyattsville City Council approved – with slight changes – a revised detailed site plan for the Landy development. Council members Ruth Ann Frazier (Ward 5), Paula Perry (Ward 4) and Timothy Hunt (Ward 3) voted against the plan. Mayor William Gardiner voted in favor of the plan, casting the deciding vote. Phase one is proposed to have 406 apartments in a building facing Belcrest Road. The total project would have more than one thousand apartments. "You think of apartment-dwellers as people that really aren't that interested in the community," Frazier told Chip Reid, attorney for Landy property owner Marvin Blumberg. She also said that she does not approve of the development's potential impact on local schools and …

The Hyattsville City Council will also hold a public hearing about residential parking on the 3100 block of Gumwood Road.
At its meeting tonight, the Hyattsville City Council is expected to approve – with revisions – a revised detailed site plan for the Landy development. The council last week heard from Chip Reid, attorney for Landy property owner Marvin Blumberg, about the new plans, which called for only a five story building in phase one of the three-phase project. The project, which originally included seven phases of 16-story high-rise apartment buildings, has been before the Prince George's District Council for three years and was recently remanded back to the county planning board. Reid said that the building would have fifth-story lofts with pitched roofs to try to meet the county's six-story rule in the Transit District Development Plan. The council…

Representatives of the 34-acre project proposed that it come in three phases.
Representatives of the Landy development came before the Hyattsville City Council Tuesday night, asking for support of a scaled-down revision of plans for the 34-acre parcel. The project, which originally included seven phases of 16-story high-rise apartment buildings, has been before the Prince George's District Council for three years and was recently remanded back to the county planning board. "It became clear to us after three years that was too much height and too much density all at once," said attorney Chip Reid, who represents the project. In the revised plan, phase one includes a four-story apartment building with a fifth-story loft and pitched roofs. The building is proposed to have 406 apartments and to face Belcrest Road. The …

Why would the council trade beautiful 16 story structures made of concrete and steel for cheap wood cookie cutter snuck housing where you can here the people above you stomp around. This is appalling. The property is so close to metro and zoned for six story minimum and this is what they came up with? What is wrong with these people.   more ›
