Landover Man Pleads Guilty to Robbery Spree

Henry Sanders faces 55 years in prison for three 2011 robberies in Prince George's County. He awaits trial for Montgomery County kidnappings.

A Landover man faces up to 55 years in prison after pleading guilty in Prince George's County Circuit Court this past Friday to a series of Hyattsville-area robberies which took place during an alleged robbery spree which spanned Prince George's and Montgomery counties in November 2011. Henry Sanders, 51, of the 3500 block of Brightseat Road in Landover, was arrested by Montgomery County Police in late November 2011 on charges related to three seperate carjackings which occurred near the Westfield Shopping Center in Wheaton.  Relying on security camera images and victim identifications, Prince George's County and Hyattsville city police investigators were then able to link Sanders to a series of robberies in the Hyattsville and Mount …

Bladensburg Man Shot By Police in Silver Spring Had Fake Gun

The man told 911 operators that he wanted police to kill him before the shooting, police said.

A 22-year-old Bladensburg man who suffered a fatal gunshot wound at the hands of police Monday morning was toting a fake gun, police said. Tracy Woodfork of Bladensburg called 911 early Monday from outside of a Silver Spring home, police said. Police report that he told the 911 operator that he wanted to die. He said he had a gun and that he wanted police to kill him, officer Rebecca Innocenti, a spokesperson for the department, said.  Using cell phone records and contacting Woodfork's family, 911 personnel were able to locate the man from the call, she said.  Patrol officers responded to the 9500 block of Woodland Drive and found a man with a gun in a stairwell outside of the home, police said. Prince George's, Montgomery Counties Awarded Thousands to Monitor Sex Offenders

Prince George's and Montgomery counties, along with 22 other Maryland jurisdictions, were awarded grant money to help monitor sex offenders.

Prince George’s and Montgomery Counties were awarded $95,802 and $40,940 respectively in grant money from the Sex Offender Compliance and Enforcement in Maryland (SOCEM) grant program. The program has awarded more than $700,000 to 23 Maryland counties and Baltimore City to help local law enforcement agencies monitor the state's 7,990 sex offenders.  Prince George's received the third-largest amount and Montgomery County the fourth-largest of the 24 jurisdictions, following Baltimore City and Baltimore County.  The Governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention announced the grant, which will help local agencies monitor Maryland’s Sex Offender Registry.  “There should be absolutely no mercy shown to anyone who harms a child in our state…
