Diamond Hansford is in control of his team, academics and future thanks to his work ethic and support system.
The student-athlete is a concept stressed by most high schools and colleges around the country. The idea that academics should always come before sports is nailed into athletes from the day they step on the playing field in high school. Athletes are constantly reminded that getting an "A" on their report card is significantly more important than hitting a walk-off home run or throwing the game winning touchdown pass. Yes, sports are great for kids. Sports can establish friends for life. They can keep kids out of trouble. They can lead to bigger and better things, such as a job as a professional athlete. I am Diamond's music teacher and though I only just met him in September, I was impressed with his work ethic and decorum. I'd like to add that not only is he a student-athlete, He is a gentleman-student- athlete! Kudos to his mother, who I met during Back -To School Night.
