Analog Hyattsville

Remember the days before digital cameras and fancy software?

This past weekend I decided to shelve my fancy DSLR and go on an old school photo hunt using an automatic compact camera known as a Lomo LC-W. It's a Chinese made camera with a 17 mm lens that shoots 35 mm film. There are only two focal settings on the device, near (0.4 to 0.9 meters) and far (0.9 to infinity). You can do square crops and half frames too. One of the most intriguing features is the ability to do multiple exposures on a single frame. However, it's the choice of film and processing that really determines the style of the images. artdc Gallery Presents "Emerging from Hyattsville"

Six Hyattsville-area artists showcase their work from July 10 to August 7 at the Lustine Showroom. An opening reception is planned for 7 p.m. on July 16.

Since 2009, artdc has brought Washington, D.C.-area artists into view at the artdc Gallery. They have had great success, and have built a loyal following. Now they are making up for lost time, highlighting six Hyattsville artists: Ed Burck, Tom Cardarella, Stevie O' Grady, Joe Rodgers, Ruth Horlick, and yours truly, Chris Suspect. The show is titled, “Emerging from Hyattsville,” and will include a wide variety of works and materials from the artists. The selections were made by Denise Brown of Hyattsville Community Arts Alliance and Jesse Cohen of artdc.org.   Opening Reception artdc will be holding the opening reception at the gallery from 7 to …
