Sheriff's deputies apprehended Kenneth Ferguson in Capitol Heights, MD, on an arrest warrant for first degree assault, according to the Prince George's County Sheriff's Office. Ferguson and another male suspect allegedly physically assaulted a male victim at the 500 block of Cedarleaf Ave. in Capitol Heights, according to the warrant, which was obtained on Nov. 20. The other male suspect pulled out a handgun and shot the victim; then he and Ferguson fled, according to the sheriff's office. Deputies seeking Ferguson found him at the 7200 block of Hylton Street, the sheriff's office announced. New Memorial remembers Sergeant James Arnaud and Deputy First Class Elizabeth Magruder.
A memorial ceremony will be held Wednesday outside the Prince George's County Sheriff's office marking the 10th anniversary of the deaths of Sergeant James Arnaud and Deputy First Class Elizabeth Magruder. Arnaud and Magruder were killed in August, 2002, while attempting to serve an emergency psychiatric service (EPS) petition to a man at a home in Adelphi. The man shot both offficers. The killings were the first line-of-duty deaths in the Prince George's Sheriff's department's 306-year history. The wreath-laying will be the first held at the newly-completed Memorial Monument on the grounds of the Sheriff's Office headquarters in Upper Marlboro. The Upper Marlboro resident was suspended after he was charged with sexually assaulting a female inmate.
Sheriff Deputy Lamar McIntyre of Upper Marlboro has been suspended from his post without pay after he was arrested and charged with second-degree rape. Prince George's County Police officers responded to the Department of Corrections in Upper Marlboro Tuesday at 2 p.m. for a report of a sexual assault, according to WUSA9. A 34-year old female inmate, who was awaiting trial, told detectives she was sexually assaulted by a deputy, WUSA9 reported. The Prince George's County Sheriff's Office conducted a warrant sweep on Father's Day.
Prince George's County Sheriff's officers arrested 51 men Sunday on charges of failing to pay child support in what is being described as the most successful "Father's Day Warrant Sweep" since 2009. The annual sweep was carried out in cooperation with the Child Support Enforcement Division and in partnership with Calvert and Charles county sheriff's offices and Maryland State Police. In all, officers closed 100 child supports related warrants and orders. Officials said they had hoped to close as many as 286 warrants and locate suspects at 136 addresses. County officials hope to thwart an increase of domestic violence incidences in Prince George's County.
According to a recently released report, the number of domestic violence incidences continues to increase yearly in Prince George's County. In order to address this issue, U.S. Sen. Ben Cardin (D-MD) will lead a roundtable discussion about domestic violence and the benefits of the Violence Against Women Act Thursday in Upper Marlboro. Prince George’s Sheriff Melvin High, Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Angela Alsobrooks will join Cardin along with representatives from Maryland Crime Victims Resource Center and the Maryland Network Against Domestic Violence, The House of Ruth, and other organizations involved in helping victims of domestic violence. Police say suspect fired twice, hit once, in potentially deadly November nightclub fight.
Prince George's Sheriff's Deputies have arrested a suspect in connection with a November shooting outside of a Bladensburg nightclub which left one man wounded. Deputies working in the Domestic Violence Intervention Division arrested Timothy Harris earlier today without incident. Harris is charged with first degree attempted murder. Prince George's County Police say they received a call of a shooting outside the Wisdom Banquet Hall on 5401 Annapolis Road on Nov. 26, 2011 at about 5:14 a.m. According to police, an argument which started inside the hall led to a fight outside after the hall had closed down. County buildings in Upper Marlboro have been flooded out.
The Prince George's County Administration Building along with the county courthouse and Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Office Headquarters in Upper Marlboro will be closed Friday after buildings flooded during Thursday's storm. Dannielle Glaros, County Councilman Eric Olson's chief of staff, said about 1.5 feet of water came into the building and it was closed at 11 a.m. Thursday. Employees will not have access to the county administration building over the weekend. Residents should call the county' Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T) automated customer service line at 301-350-0500 to report any flooded or impassable roads.
