Hyattsville CX Raises $3K For Special Olympics
Later, the Hyattsville City Council unanimously approves request to use Magruder Park for 2013 CX.
This past October's Hyattsville CX, a cyclocross race held at Magruder Park, raised $3,000 for the Prince George's County Special Olympics program. At last night's Hyattsville City Council meeting, race organizers presented an oversized check to county Special Olympics athletes and officials. The $3,000 haul is significantly lower than the $7,000 raised during the previous Hyattsville CX in 2011. Eric Griffin, President of the Route 1 Velo cycling club which helped organize the race, said revenue was down this year because because of an increase in overhead costs and lower attendance (likely caused by the first rainy Hyattsville CX in the event's history) hurting concession sales.
