Synagogue property to be used to build new Prince George's Plaza Community Center.
Hyattsville area residents can look forward to a new community center in the future, if building funds are made available. Earlier this week, the Maryland Department of Natural Resources awarded $1.8 million to the Maryland-National Capital Parks and Planning Commission to purchase a little more than one acre of land in Hyattsville to rebuild the Prince George's Plaza Community Center. "This acquisition will provide the M-NCPPC with enough land to rebuild and expand the Prince George’s Plaza Community Center ─ its oldest community center ─ and associated parking when future funding becomes available," reads a press release from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. Local soldiers, veterans and their families came to the Prince George's Plaza community center for a special tribute in honor of the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11 on Saturday afternoon.
About 50 soldiers, veterans and area residents gathered at the Prince George's Plaza community center in Hyattsville for a special tribute to local soldiers. The event featured speeches from local soldiers and veterans, as well as a speech from the Maryland Secretary of Veteran's Affairs.
