Prince George's Crime Watch: Child Sexual Assaults, String of Robberies

A man charged with sexual assault allegedly lures girls out of Value Village stores; police say a common suspect is involved in a string of robberies; and police ID a murder victim, according to recent county police reports.

Police Charge Bowie Man In Alleged Sexual Abuse of Children Michael David Brochu, 62, of Bowie, has been charged with sexually abusing a 10-year-old boy, a family friend who was visiting him in his home from April 1, 2011, to June 30, 2012, according to a Prince George's County Police Department (PGPD) investigation. In addition Brochu is charged in two other sexual assaults of young boys in Bowie, one involved a family member and the other a boy who he had temporary supervison of, police reported. Sheriff's Deputy Charged With Second-Degree Rape

The Upper Marlboro resident was suspended after he was charged with sexually assaulting a female inmate.

Sheriff Deputy Lamar McIntyre of Upper Marlboro has been suspended from his post without pay after he was arrested and charged with second-degree rape. Prince George's County Police officers responded to the Department of Corrections in Upper Marlboro Tuesday at 2 p.m. for a report of a sexual assault, according to WUSA9. A 34-year old female inmate, who was awaiting trial, told detectives she was sexually assaulted by a deputy, WUSA9 reported. Victim Leads Cops to Suspected Serial Rapist

City police tell how they closed in on Edwin Rivas as a suspect in local sexual assaults along Northwest Branch Hiker Biker Trail.

Keen eyes, from both a Hyattsville City Police officer and one of the victims of a suspected serial rapist, helped police identify 24-year-old city resident Edwin Xavier Rivas as a suspect in a number of area rapes and sexual assaults. Rivas, arrested on Saturday, is now considered a suspect in at least four sexual assaults in the vicinity of the Northwest Branch Hiker Biker Trail in Hyattsville and Mount Rainier. So far, he has been charged in relation to two of them.  County police filed a host of charges against Rivas for a Jan. 28 rape in Mount Rainier, including first and second-degree rape, first and second-degree sex offenses, second-degree assault and sodomy, according to court records. Temple Hills Drug Trafficker Sentenced 11 Years in Prison According to Prince George's County Police Department reports, on Monday, Chief U.S. District Judge Deborah Chasanow sentenced Eric Leroy Byrd, age 46, of Temple Hills, Maryland, to 132 months, the equivalent of approximately 11 years, in prison followed by five years of supervised release for possession with intent to distribute cocaine base. According to reports of Byrd’s guilty plea, from September 2009 to April 2010 he distributed crack cocaine to an individual in Prince George’s and Charles counties, Maryland.
