Two Hyattsville Women Killed in Silver Spring Crash

A third passenger was taken to a local hospital in serious condition.

Two Hyattsville women were killed Thursday morning in a car accident on University Boulevard in Silver Spring. A third woman, of Silver Spring, was taken to a hospital in serious condition, according to a report by The Gazette. The driver of a 2003 Nissan, Murano 22-year-old Jenice Richards, and back seat passenger, 19-year-old Tamara Nicole Johnson were killed when the vechicle careened off the road and into the front yard of 611 University Boulevard, the report stated. Police are still investigating the accident and are not sure if alcohol was a factor, the article stated.

Aikido Classes Continue Fourteenth Year at Community Center

Instructors Chris Desautels and Erich Heins have held Aikido classes at Prince George's Plaza Community Center since 1997.

Although often forgotten or simply unknown by the mainstream sports crowd, martial arts are among the most ancient forms of currently practiced exercise. Modern-day students, practitioners and experts in the field reach all corners of the globe, making the activity one of the most universal facets of culture worldwide. Hyattsville is no exception thanks to biweekly instruction of Aikido classes at the Prince George's Plaza Community Center.  Taught by instructors Chris Desautels and Erich Heins, the Aikido classes convene from 6:45 p.m. until 8:45 p.m. every Wednesday and Saturday and have taken place at the community center since 1997. Best Of Two Schools

St. Mark the Evangelist School and St. Camillus School merge into St. Francis International School.

St. Mark the Evangelist School has undergone more than just a name change. The school, located on Adelphi Road, merged with St. Camillus School in Silver Spring and both locations are now known as St. Francis International School. "We are combining the legacy of two great schools," said Tobias Harkleroad, co-principal of the new school. Faced with declining enrollments and increasing deficits the Archdiocese of Washington approved the merger earlier this year, Harkleroad said. The schools are less than three miles apart, and both have been in operation for more than 50 years.
