Storms Bring Disruptions, Outages to Prince George's County

The National Weather Service reports that a brief tornado was documented during Tuesday's severe weather outburst.

A sprawling storm system kicked up rain, power outages, and 50 mph wind gusts Tuesday as it pushed through Maryland and the Mid-Atlantic region. Overall, Prince George's County appeared relatively unscathed by the severe weather, with minor wind-related damage reported across the area. But the day was marked by an escalating series of watches and alerts from the National Weather Service, including a tornado warning issued in the afternoon for the northern end of the county. The NWS reports that a brief tornado was documented east of the U.S. 50/I-495 interchange, but damage was said to be confined to uprooted trees and snapped limbs. Powerful Storms Cause Outages and Delays in Prince George's County

Updates on power outages and storm damage throughout the county Friday.

Low visibility on roads, flash floods and tornado warnings created an interesting commute home for Prince George's County residents Friday evening. The severe thunderstorms, which began shortly after 2 p.m. in the metro region, hit Prince George's County around 4 p.m. With a tornado watch issued for the county through 9 p.m., some residents heard sirens blaring when there was a possibility of tornadoes forming near them. Hail was reported in Bowie, while some commuters spotted a funnel cloud in Greenbelt over Kenilworth Avenue and the beltway. But most of the county experienced heavy rains.
