The "Trashy-ist" Places In Hyattsville

Say it isn't so ... scads of garbage strewn along Route 1 at EYA's Arts District Hyattsville.

Patch editor Sarah Nemeth took these photos of trash left along the west side of Baltimore Avenue at EYA's Arts District Hyattsville and just south. With all the new eateries on the east side of Hyattsville's main drag, will refuse become an issue there? Has it already become one?

What the most common trash? Bottles and bag. Anyone who does not think there should be a bottle bill need only volunteer to pick up trash. It's obscene. Go down to the Bladensburg waterfront and take a boat ride and just try to count the number of bottles and cans...it's crazy. Plastic bags! DC imposed a tax, why can't Maryland? How much control do the lobbyist have on our elected officials? …   more ›

There will also be changes during the week of Nov. 21-27 due to the Thanksgiving holiday. You can check out the calendar of trash pickup changes here. The county does not pick up recycling on Thanksgiving. To find out more click here. Please note: There is no leaf vacuuming holiday weeks. Leaves may be bagged and included as Yard Waste. City Will Collect Trash At Convent

The Hyattsville City Council approved an agreement to continue garbage pick up at St. Jerome's Convent and Child Care Center.

The Hyattsville City Council earlier this week decided to extend trash pickup at St. Jerome's Convent and Child Center for a year in return for short term parking rights at St. Jerome's church. The city has been collecting trash at the convent for years, but that service was ended in July after a complaint that trash was overflowing from trash containers. The city first extended pickup until August and then until the Sept. 7 council meeting. Mayor William Gardiner said he is not sure that there is not a need for the additional parking area. "I'm concerned that this is sort of a way to justify something that's [not really needed]," he said. Previously, the city signed an agreement with St. Jerome's to provide $2,000 toward resurfacing the …

City May Stop Trash Pickup At Convent

Garbage collection was stopped because trash cans were overflowing.

The City of Hyattsville has been picking up trash at St. Jerome's Convent and Child Center for years, but that service could come to an end soon, leaving the nuns that live there in a quandary. Although the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur declined to comment on the situation, St. Jerome's pastor James Stack – who is also the Hyattsville Police Department chaplain – said at an August 2 City Council meeting that he is hoping the city will continue to do it. The council extended trash services until their next meeting on Sept. 7, at which time it is expected that the issue will be revisited. The childcare center provides services for children six-weeks through four years old at or below market rate. The city has provided trash collection for …

I think maybe Mustang2 is unaware of what facist really is,if he/she can so causaly throw the term around. I wonder if Mustang2 is actually a Christian or just another Bible Enthusiast pushing a personal agenda? It seems that a real Christian would morn the loss of a servant of his/her God with…   more ›
