Public Gets First Look at Ager Road Concepts

Roadway rehab designed to make it easier to walk and bike along West Hyattsville thoroughfare.

The public got their first look last night at concepts for an overhaul of Ager Road designed to bring it up to modern transportation standards.  The conceptual plans were unveiled at a meeting led by the Prince George's County Department of Public Works and Transportation held at Rosa Parks Elementary School. The improvements would be constructed along Ager road between Queens Chapel Road in Hyattsville and East West Highway in Chillum.  "This area just seemed to have everything we wanted to do in a road rehabilitation," said Susan Hubbard, a public information officer with the DPWT. "It will really enhance the area." Planners are calling for the new Ager Road to be outfitted as a "green/complete" road, constructed using environmentally …

West Hyattsville Metro Sees Lots of Crime, Arrests in First Quarter

Station sees 13 property crimes reported between January and March 2012.

Over the first three months of the year, the West Hyattsville Metro station had the worst crime rate out of the 20 Metro stations in Maryland.  West Hyattsville was the overall eighth most crime-ridden Metro station in the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority system through the first quarter of 2012. It was the only Maryland station to make the top 10 list for the first quarter. All the other stations in the top 10 are located in Washington, D.C. According to documents presented to Metro's Board of Directors, the West Hyattsville station saw 13 property crimes reported between January and March. Police also made 11 arrests at the station; three for pickpocketing, six for bicycle thefts, one arrest for driving on a suspended …

Going on Green: How Hyattsville Uses the Metro

What travel on the Green Line looks like for the weekend of May 13-15.

Red, Blue, Orange, and, yes, Green Lines will single track it in places this weekend from 10 p.m. Friday, May 20, to closing on Sunday, May 22. Looks like the Green Line's sunny construction-free days finally ended. But only a small portion of the line will be single tracking it -- between the Navy Yard and Anacostia stations, while personnel install new track. If you're planning on transferring to other lines, keep a lookout for construction zones. Red Line trains will share one track between Friendship Heights and Grosvenor-Strathmore for tunnel leak repairs and rail fastener replacements.
