The Greenbelt facility ran away with the vote. Several other contenders also placed well in Patch's poll for best workout spot.
Gold's Gym amassed the most votes for best workout spot in this week's five-community poll. With a strong showing of 54 votes out of 126 total votes, the Greenbelt gym edged out nine other contenders. Commenters praised Gold's Gym for its friendly staff, great environment, selection of equipment, and daycare. For folks in the other communities polled—College Park, Hyattsville, Riverdale Park, and University Park—who don't often find themselves in Greenbelt, or for those who want to consider all their options, here are the top vote winners for the other three cities in the poll: University of Maryland Campus Recreation Center won in College Park and also placed second overall as a top workout spot with 23 percent and 29 votes. It's a fitness face-off between four neighboring cities and towns in Prince George's County.
This week we want to know what your favorite place to work out is across College Park, Greenbelt, Hyattsville, and Riverdale. When it comes down to it, what do you look for in a fitness center? Does it need to look Louis XIV's court, with all of the beautiful people? Perhaps feeling all Greta Garbo-like, you instead say "I want to be alone!" If you're gonna turn red, gasp for air, and fill the atmosphere with your "health aroma," how much company do you really need? Maybe, you care about other things like a convenient location, a good price, enough equipment that you don't have wait for a turn, or friendly staff. Join columnist Ann Brennan and other Patch readers in a quest to maintain your fitness and weight during the holiday season.
This morning I found myself wanting to kick my scale under the bed, hoping that if I hide it, I might be able to avoid the anxiety that comes with weight gain over the holiday season. Unfortunately, tighter waistbands will reveal the same news if I am not careful. But I have a new plan. This year, I’m organizing a Prince George’s County Fitness Challenge, and I’m inviting the Patch community to participate. The challenge is meant to be motivating. It is meant to offer support and encouragement throughout the holiday season, as we try to maintain our current fitness and weight. Most importantly it is meant to be fun.
