Update: Tornado Warning Issued for Pr. George's

Storm could bring powerful winds and lots of rain to area over the next few hours.

UPDATE - 3:26 p.m. - The National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for Northern Prince George's County in effect until 3:45 p.m.  At 3:16 p.m., NWS officials spotted a severe thunderstorm near Takoma Park. The storm was moving northeast at 45 mph, and could be capable of producing tornados. Locations which could be impacted by this storm include Chillum, Beltsville and Fairland.  NWS officials are warning residents to take cover inside an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy buildings. Flood Watch in Effect for Prince George's County

With the severe thunderstorm in the area, there is a chance for flooding.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for Prince George's and Montgomery counties until 12:30 a.m. NWS said waterways connected to the Anacostia Watershed could be affected. The NWS is warning drivers about roadway conditions and said to avoid areas of the road with standing water, as it could be deeper than expected. In addition to the flooding, NWS warns of strong wind of 40 to 50 miles per hour gusts and thunder and lightning.
