Gee, that makes sense. No growth in a DC inner suburb because a road-construction project designed to ADD capacity to the US1/410 intersection has temporarily blocked a lane. (Or because when the power and traffic signals go out, that leads to delays.)

Rather than telling others what to do with their property, why don't you donate your own land "with an easement requiring the community to keep it as a park"?

@Adelphi Sky -- I personally prefer Harris Teeter and do almost all of my grocery shopping there (in DC). However, Safeway has had a lease with UTC since 2006 (intending to open at UTC and close the Hamilton St. store). Obviously we know how that has played out (and you forgot to mention that they closed their Langley Park store, too!). That said, the latest news is that Safeway is still interested in and is close to a new deal for the UTC site. (On a separate note, Harris Teeter is confirmed to be opening its first PG location next year on the former Laurel Mall site.)

I am especially curious about all those kiddies who will be generated by the 200+ senior housing units that are included in the "955+" figure. But it's apparent that the underlying concern is that apartment-dwellers' spawn may end up polluting the pristine UPES. (And why not bring up the fact that a new elementary school is under construction in Hyattsville? It's actually not all about UP!)

"ghetto"? At least someone at UP is finally brave enough to hint at the underlying reason why the vocal minority opposes nearby commercial and apartment development. It's not the trees; it's not the traffic.

"Apologists"? Nobody's apologizing, for there is nothing to apologize for. As for you, Laura, you should apologize for accusing those who disagree with you as being somehow in cahoots with the developer.

ReplyWow, what a surprise -- Stullich leads the opposition, and her three reasons for doing so are petty and administrative. The strategy is clear: try by any means possible to delay the project just long enough for the signed tenants drop out, rendering the landowner unable to proceed.
Stullich is like one of those children's dolls where you pull the string to get a pre-recorded, infantile message -- in her case, "No!" No cognition required!
