Susan, have a heart? Yes, I do which is why I would never drive without a license, never put my children at risk by driving without them properly secured in the car and NEVER have rented space from another RENTER without the OWNER'S knowledge. This happens a lot in Lewisdale even though the area is zoned R-57, single family homes. I still contend that if Ms. Cruz Lopez had not rented space illegally, then there would have been no argument and no loss of life. When it comes to adults being responsible for the lives of their children then, yes, I will always side with innocent children. I don't know this woman so there is no vendetta as you would believe, Susan Keiffers. What have you done to advocate on behalf of children or your community? I own a home in Lewisdale and I can speak to the issues at hand. Yes, it is tragic for the children. I have seen other cases with horrible consequences for the children living in Lewisdale such as the case of a mother who lived two doors down from me. She was stealing drivers licenses from the DMV in Georgetown with her 15 year old daughter by her side. Eric Holder prosecuted her and the minor under the Terrorism Act. They were deported. For many, many years Laverne Williams was the head of the Lewisdale Citizens Association and worked tirelessly on behalf of ALL of the residents as have many of us who own homes there. I believe in educating people as to what the laws are and they have a responsibility to abide by them.

All of the children are the losers in this event. Perhaps if she had not illegally rented space in a house in Lewisdale this might have been avoided (the argument and her eviction).

She has no license. Plus she lied to Police re her many names and committed traffic violations in Montgomery County, one of which involved the safety of her children not being secured in the SUV.

As a former resident of Lewisdale, which by the way, was named after Mr. Lewis who built that community after WWII. My family bought one of the new houses and still owns that house today. The zoning violations that have occurred over the years are enormous, from 30 unrelated people living in one single family house (less than 1200 sq. feet), to paving over an entire front yard and most of the back with Macadem (next door to my house). Forget the fact that the gas lines run under the front yard. I requested through Will Campos' office a County inspector come to my street. He came and told me that there was nothing he could do except cite everyone on the street so it didn't look like he was targeting any one house! The reason I asked him there was to cite a van travel service that was operating two doors up from me and was parking numerous large vans on the street and servicing those vans in the back yard with full automotive repair (there's no space inbetween houses to get back there). I could go on and on about the public urination, cases of beer left in front of my house (and broken bottles), condons, you name it. Lewisdale has become a filthy place and the homes are now broken down but there are plenty of people who own big expensive SUVs parked outside them. The Washington Post said Ms. Cruz-Lopez was driving a Ford Expedition even though she worked two cleaning jobs and has been here a decade (and not bettered herself). She was an illegal renter from another renter.
